But would you ask your 5 remaining children to help you get the two back?

Are you saying that you could rescue two of your children but because you did not want to risk losing even one more you would let them dangle in the wind?

Don’t you feel the only way to save the five remaining children is to let those who would harm you know that it doesn’t pay to f*ck around with your family?

Iran has gazillion more money and weapons and soldiers than Israel. Do you know why Iran does not attack Israel directly? Because Israel will always attack disproportionately. Anyone who knows that you are not willing to sacrifice all will be emboldened to take first your two children than another two than your remaining one. In your effort to prevent “sacrificing” your remianing five children, you will only wind up losing them without a struggle.

What you think is protecting your family leads to their utter destruction. In 1939, no one wanted to lose a single son in fighting Adolf Hitler. In the end, 40 million lives were lost when the sacrifice of 5 sons would have halted him his tracks.

As a parent, I appreciate your sentiment to keep them from harm’s way, but in the real world your math will not save your childrens’ lives. In the real world, if you watch any National Geographic, those who appear weak are those who die first.

I need to correct your statement that I have a dislike of Jews. That’s not the case and I have some good friends who are hardcore Jewish. I find many religious practices silly but it doesn’t mean I dislike the people who practice them. It’s kind of like having a friend who’s dating a married guy and thinks he’s going to leave his wife for her. I still like the friend but I wish she’d wise up a bit. And, for what it’s worth, there’s a reason I titled the post “The Passion of the Israelis” rather than “The Passion of the Jews” even though the latter has a better ring to it- it wasn’t about the Jews, it was about the Israelis.

As for the comparison to the US in WWII, I could go in depth with a bunch of clichÃ©s- two wrongs don’t make a right, that’s ancient history, etc- but I’ll just leave it as irrelevant.

Finally, if someone stole two of my children I don’t know what lengths I’d go to to get them back. But I do know I wouldn’t sacrifice five more children to make it happen.

As for going against the right guys, Hezbollah admitted they kidnapped the soldiers, no wild guessing there.

As for doing the math, a lousy few thousand Americans got killed at Pearl Harbor and we kill over 2.6 million japanese (600,000 civilians) in return. Does that seem disproportionate?

I think you are letting your slight dislike of Jews color your thinking. If Hezbollah stole 2 of your children I wonder how many of them would you kill to get them back? Or would you do the math?

The U.S. will never do so because Israel has done the same thing our govt.(both parties) did. Used one event as an excuse to wage the fight they always wanted. Doesn’t matter if they are going after the right people. They are going after the people who swore to destroy every citizen of their country. But no one learns that war only begets war, yet no war can truly be won. Even religious fanatics are after power, and their leaders manipulate their own people to gain it. Unfortunately, the govt. of Lebanon could not, or would not, shut down Hezbollah, and now their children and elderly are paying the price. War is truly hell. Sorry to rant.
